On Saturday the 30th April, 600 educators from across the country descended on the University of Northampton for Educating Northants. The event was created by a forward-thinking team from Northants to provide a way to showcase some of the amazing educational practice that is going on within the county. Teachers and leaders from Northamptonshire delivered sessions alongside nationally renowned speakers. Two of the speakers from the county work at Windmill Primary School.
Michelle Brett, Vice Principal and Jess Mawby, Year 2 teacher at Windmill, presented to a full room of teachers where latecomers had to sit on the floor. In a session called, ‘Moving away from Marking,’ they shared a research project that Jess has been involved with, looking at effective feedback in the classroom and moving away from written marking. This particular project has just been accepted to feature as a case study in a book, due to be published next year. Michelle presented again in the afternoon and her session, ‘From Policies to Principles,’ detailed the development of agreed principles at Windmill. Rather than overly detailed and prescriptive polices, Windmill now use shared Principles of Teaching, Feedback and Assessment.
There is definitely some amazing teaching practice happening in schools within Northamptonshire. The day was inspirational and Windmill School is proud to have been asked to be involved.
